This page contains a list of commonly asked questions and will be updated as new questions arise. If you have a question that is not answered here, please do not hesitate to email us and we will do our best to give you an answer!
Is this event listed on Geocaching.com?
Why yes! Yes, it is! Go ahead, visit the cache listing page, and log your “will attend”. It’ll brighten our day.
Do I need to register?
Yes. We will be pre-printing name tags and preparing registration packs ahead of time so it's really helpful to register as soon as you can. That said, it's not too late, and we will only close online registration a week or so before the event. Once you have registered there is a registration fee to pay, which covers event expenses such as the venue hire.
Will there be free parking available at the venue?
Yes, absolutely no need to worry about that, there will be plenty of parking in the stadium car park. If needed, there is also additional parking a short walk away.
What if I don’t want to attend all three days?
if you can't make it to the full event, you can pop in any time you like, for as long as you like! Registration will be available throughout the entire NZ Mega 2013 event. If you can only attend one of the days, we recommend Sunday, but there'll be no shortage of great things to do on any of the other days either! The programme is still being finalised but we will keep it up to date with details on all the activities on the different days.
Who should attend this event?
Everyone! No, really. Everyone! We'll have activities suitable for all ages, including activities specifically for the little ones, and you can choose whether to partake in the crazier adventures or just take it easy and chill out with other cachers. Whatever you do, it's all about enjoying yourself.
Will there be any First Aiders there?
There will be geocachers on site who are qualified first aiders and a First Aid kit will be available to handle any minor mishaps. You are responsible for your own safety throughout the entirety of the event and during any of its activities so be mindful of that and don't push your limits. Should anything happen, our team of volunteers will be able to help you out.
What if it rains?
Well you might get wet... It's not all that likely though, considering the time of the year, but you just never know, right? The event base is the North Harbour Stadium Convention Centre, which is covered, so you can stay dry. If you're out geocaching, well... it's only water and our NZ Mega shirts are quick dry too! The event will be on rain or shine, though.
What exactly am I paying for?
Your money is helping cover the costs of running the event. It covers things such as hiring the venue, organising the activities, minting event coins, and all the other expenses associated with putting on an event of this magnitude. We are working very hard to make sure this is the most affordable event in the entire southern hemisphere and we hope you will find it extremely good value! Please note that this event is non-profit and any excess funds, if we have any, will be donated to a charity (details to be announced on this website). Rest assured that even the organising team have paid a full registration fee to attend the event!
Will there be food available onsite?
Yes. We will have a cafe onsite all day on Sunday, with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, soft drinks, and a range of snacks. You can also pre-order your meals to have them ready for you at event on Sunday.
Will there be activities especially for kids?
Yes! We're still working on ideas but there will definitely be activities specifically put on for the geo-kids. We will update the programme with these once plans have been finalised.
Will there be any new caches in the area?
Oh yeah, bring extra batteries for the GPS and prepare for a few potential FTFs!
I paid for shipping but I'll pick up my items at the event. Now what?
Don't worry, lots of people did the same. If you're picking everything up at the event, we will refund your postage. We will partially refund anyone who has some items posted and others picked up at the event. Fair is fair.
Where should I stay for the event?
While this event is not one you can camp at, there is free overnight parking for self-contained campervans nearby. There are many accomodation options around Auckland and the North Shore, and we have listed some of them, including special offers for geocachers.
