Event Programme
The programme for the NZ Mega 2020 event is still a work in progress - a lot of work is going on behind the scenes and some things need to be worked on before others, but we intend to start filling in this page with more and more useful information soon! Times and sequence are currently subject to change. Friday, 22 October 2021All Day - Guided cache walksGuided cache walks in the Auckland region, including: - Rangitoto Island - Karekare/Tunnel Point - Browns Island (tentative) - etc Pre-mega Fish 'n' Chips welcome event - 1700-1900Fish and chips in the park, welcome event and Gold/Silver registration pack collection, location TBC Saturday, 23 October 2021Saturday is the official event date. Lots of activities will be taking place at and around the mega venue on this day including seminars, workshops, adventure lab caches and the quiz night event. You should log the mega event on this date to receive the event souvenir, but afterwards you can change the log date to Sunday or Monday, if you feel one of those dates is more suitable for you. Venue open to event attendeesRegistration pack collection begins, and ice-breaker games start. Competition voting opens. Adventure Labs availableOn-site Adventure Labs will be opened up along with some in the Auckland region. These will include some adventures located within and around the venue itself along with some around Auckland. The adventures at the venue will be available while the venue is open until Sunday night, and those around the Auckland region will be available until TBC. Keynote speakerJoshua the Geocaching Vlogger will talk about his geocaching adventures. Seminars/panel discussionsIn the main room of the venue, open to all event attendees. Geocaching stores openGet your cool SWAG, cache containers, geocoins and other geocaching gear here! Official welcome ceremonyWelcome to Auckland, and to NZ Mega 2020. Quiz Night eventA fun quiz night event with guest quiz-master Joshua the Geocaching Vlogger! Bookings essential - TBC. Night-cachingTBC. Sunday, 24 October 2021Venue open to event attendeesRegistration pack collection still available. Seminars/workshopsA variety of interesting seminars and workshops, open to all event attendees in the main room and side-rooms at the venue - booking may be necessary, TBC. Meet a Groundspeak Lackey, and Signal too!Meet Annie Love from Geocaching HQ, and Signal will be there as well for your photo opportunities (don't forget the locationless cache!) Geocaching stores openGet your cool SWAG, cache containers, geocoins and other geocaching gear here! Adventure Labs availableOn-site Adventure Labs continue, as do those around the Auckland region. The Adventure Labs around the venue will be available until the venue closes on Sunday night. Off-site activities and gamesTBC. Prize-givingPrizes awarded for any games and competitions during the Mega. For some prize draws you will need to be there or they will be redrawn! Night-cachingTBC. Monday, 25 October 2021Mega Event activities move away from the venue. CITO eventThis is being arranged with Department of Conservation and Council authorities to organise an interesting and helpful CITO event for NZ Mega 2020 attendees to take part in - TBC. Flashmob photo eventThis event will include the taking of the official event photo - TBC. Community Celebration eventAn opportunity to chill out and talk with your fellow geocachers about all the amazing adventures you've experienced while geocaching - TBC. Mega Sunset closing eventAn opportunity for us all to relax and look back over a fantastic Mega weekend... and start thinking about the next one! - TBC. |
